Confessions

Alright, it's time I came forward and admitted my trespasses. Truth be told, I haven't posted a thing on this blog since its beginning. Stephanie was kind enough to set it up for me, and has posted everything that you see before you up until this point. However, I've committed myself to being more informative from now on, and this is step one.

So my first bit of news is that I've taken a job! I was offered the band director position at American Leadership Academy in Spanish Fork (see photo). It is the largest charter school in UT, and has students coming from as far as Sandy to Nephi. The facilities are gorgeous, and they've even begun working on a separate fine arts building that hopefully will be completed soon. I will be teaching grades 6-12, which is a great thing for a music teacher. That means that I get to be my own feeder program. I start them off from the beginning, and I don't have to worry about correcting all the bad habits that they may have learned from someone else. I will teach jazz band, percussion ensemble, a few concert bands, and believe it or not...two beginning guitar classes. Though unexpected, I'm really looking forward to this one. It seems a convenient coincidence that I started to pick up the guitar sometime last summer. I never put much thought into it, it just became somewhat of a musical release for me. After my hands and ears were tired of practicing the drums and everything else, I could pick up the guitar and samba my sorrows away.

So when I learned that I would be teaching a couple of guitar classes I decided that it was time to REALLY learn to play the guitar, which brings me to my next exciting news...

I BOUGHT A GUITAR!!

Granted, everywhere I turned somebody seemed to have a guitar that I could play on, but I wanted one of my own. So, I found a great deal, and decided to go for it. Dad thought I was crazy, and perhaps he still does, but I'm very happy. It is an Antonio Aparicio classical guitar - that's what they use in Brazil. It was made in Bilbao, Spain and I think it's beautiful. Singing has since become a necessary evil, since I don't know anybody that speaks Portuguese and is willing to accompany me, but I believe my voice is almost tolerable. Nate and I have plans to put together a guitar/pandeiro duo in the future and make a lot of money. We'll see.

Jed,

Finding contact information for you has been difficult. Are you checking your ALA-assigned e-mail account yet? Do you have another method we can use to communicate with you? Several of us would like to get a jump-start on next year's music and would like to discuss details with you.

It's about flippin' time! (Don't hit me.) Well done, bro. Blogging is like riding a bike. It's difficult to get started, but once you get the hang of it, you can't stop! So, I guess that would make it like riding a bike down a steep hill. Anyway, good job. Talk to you soon.

Congrats on the job Jed. Sounds like you'll be busy with all those classes. How much did your guitar cost anyways? You're gonna be like multi-multi talented soon. keep the posts coming. I like hearing what my cousins are doing.
